Grover Beach Montage

Sunday, December 11, 2016

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a louse….err a mouse.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
We jumped from our bed to see what was the matter!
And what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But five flying pigs and a Longhorn Santa Steer!
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment… wait, what! It must be Saint Nick?
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And the starlight it twinkled off of his Longhorn rack.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
He touched the gold ring that pierced his big nose,
And giving a nod up the chimney he rose.
I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
Mooy Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Reluctant, actually it was more like terrified. This man barged into her orderly life, turned it upside down, and kept coming back. Tall and confident, with a sense of humor as dry as California's Central Valley, he came modest but looked money. Broad shouldered, cowboy fit, and damn good looking, this tantalizing hunk of masculinity had one most irritating fault. Mocking eyes. Dark as polished obsidian, they saw through her every excuse.
Her best quality was her unerring common sense. Could she rely on it, with comfort food and a generous side of denial, and resist his charms? Or should she follow her heart?
